YouTube Video Description

In this episode of World’s Greatest Cruises, we discover the rhythms of South America. On a cruise up South America’s Atlantic coast from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Lynn Elmhirst discovers the hidden gems of two of the continent’s most storied seaside cities. Beginning in the capital of Argentina. BA is also known as the “Paris of South America”, and we discover its European influences as well as the neighborhood near the docks that was the cradle of the colorful, iconic culture of the city – including its most famous music and dance, the tango. We meet a Maker, who’s transforming tango one ‘step at a time.’ And naturally, pay our respects at the busy gravesite of Eva Peron, the inspiration behind the musical ‘Evita!’ Sailing north on our European-style cruise, we discover a cobbler hand-making sandals for guests, and meet up with a bartender who shows us three ways to drink Brazil’s sugarcane spirit: cachaca. On Brazil’s Costa Verde, we visit the preserved historic city of Paraty, the home of cachaca, and visit a rare, woman-owned, family distillery for a tasting. Finally, on to epic Rio de Janeiro, where we go from sea level legendary beaches like Copacabana, to the heights of Sugar Loaf mountain and the mountain top statue of Christ the Redeemer. And the guest on our cruise get their own, behind the scenes tour of Samba City, where the next year’s Carnival floats and costumes are already underway.
