Antigua is known for it's beaches. This island in the Caribbean is said to have a beach for every day of the year! We would have loved to spend a significant amount of time on Antigua to be able to try and visit all 365 beaches, but in our most recent trip we had a limited amount of time. In this video you will find some ideas for things to do in Antigua. We ended up exploring around the Galleon Beach area and finding out what else this Caribbean island has to offer, including local beer, snorkeling and hiking. Not only did we find Galleon Beach to be a nice beach with calm waters for snorkeling with sea turtles and a sunken ship, but it is only a rock scramble away from experiencing the incredible rock formations known as the Pillars of Hercules and Mermaid Gardens. Both the Pillars of Hercules and the Mermaid Gardens were unique areas to marvel at what nature has created on the island of Antigua. As we approached the pillars, we found what looked like a face in the rock. We wondered if it was supposed to be the face of Hercules. but we were not able to find any information about this. Even though we have only visited this area once, we were saddened to hear the news that someone would deface such a beautiful area created by nature. The Pillars of Hercules are a major national landmark in Antigua and are part of the National Park on the island. If you do consider visiting this area please remember to leave no trace. Defacing a protected area in a National Park is a crime.
