YouTube Video Description

The beautiful and historic old town of Koblenz, Germany was our next stop, I must admit, I didn't know anything about Koblenz but was impressed! We started at the German Corner with three pieces of the Berlin Wall and a monument to Wilhelm or William I, all monument to unity and peace. We then saw a cross and wall from the days of the teutonic knights order. There is now an art museum on the other side of the wall with a thumb sculpture that is apparently an exact replica of the artist's thumb. We then walked through the gardens and around the stunning St Castor Basilica. It became a basilica when Pope John Paul II visited. Walking through the old town, we saw the buildings of the Florinmarkt - the Florinskirche, the old shopping and dancing hall with the 'eye roller', the gothic alderman house and Bürresheimer Hof. We then visited Jesuit Square with the old Jesuit church now the Citykirche, a statue of Johannes Muller and the Jesuit Grammar School, now the town hall with it's spitting statue. I really enjoyed visiting Koblenz and was amazed at history from Roman times to the present. There is also a cable car the fortress. It's a beautiful old town and worth a visit. #history #rhineriver #travel #europe #koblenz #germany #germanhistory #rhinerivercruise #rivercruise #rivercruising #vikingcruises #vikingrivercruise Music from Bensound.com Chapters 00:00 Introduction 00:17 German Corner 01:17 Berlin Wall Pieces 02:13 Wilhelm I Monument 03:39 Teutonic Knights Cross 04:21 Art Museum with Thumb Sculpture 04:52 St Castor Basilica 06:52 Historic Buildings Florinsmarkt 10:55 Jesuit Square 12:42 Leaving Koblenz
