One of the quickest and simplest day trips from Dublin is to the seaside town of Howth. It is only an hour train ride from the city and the train drops you right into the heart of town. There are five things I would recommend doing if you visit: 1. Walk the two piers 2. Take a boat ride around Ireland's Eye, an island that is a short distance from Howth 3. Hike the Cliff Walk 4. Eat Seafood 5. Explore the Howth shops For senior travelers, it is easy to navigate and flat surfaces, except the hike. If you hike from downtown, it requires some stamina to get to the top.
