YouTube Video Description

I've just come back from what was an awesome expedition cruise to Greenland with HX Hurtigruten Expeditions on their newest expedition cruise ship the MS Fridtjof Nansen. This video offers a whole cruise review and inside look at both the ship and all its amenities as well as Greenland as a destination. The video looks at the ship's swimming pool, hot tubs, jogging track, outdoor gym and observation deck (amazing facilities for a ship this size) as well as at the bars and restaurants - I try a very strong Norwegian aquavit which is named after the ship, which is in turn named after the Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen. One of the most amazing stops on a Greenland cruise is to Ilulissat which is home to the Unesco World Heritage Ice Fjord full of icebergs. Experts and scientists say that the iceberg which sank the Titanic came from here and was drifted to Canada/the North Atlantic by currents and winds. This is one of the most fabulous cruise stops in the WORLD (in my opinion) - it will take your breath away. It's here I see lots of whales and I manage to capture on on camera. There's great walks/hiking opportunities here and you can also do an excursion in a small boat which can take you much deeper into the fjord and to the icebergs. It's COLD by the icebergs in Ilulissat so it's nice to get back on the ship to warm up in the hot tubs and sauna - everywhere on board comes with a great view, even the sauna. The scenery and panoramas in Greenland is off the scale and the ship offers hikes in most stops - I really enjoy these. I'm also amazed how much colourful flora there is in Greenland considering the country is arctic and only has very short, not particularly warm summers. Botanists/flower lovers will LOVE it here. It's always fun trying local food on your travels and the ship offers the chance to try a dried fish snack called 'Sarrullik' (featured in the video) and when out in capital Nuuk I buy a hot dog made of Musk Ox in a cafe - Musk Ox is the native animal (a cross between a shaggy cow and a sheep) and it's delicious. Very tasty indeed... Other highlights in the video include being invited into a native inuit's home for coffee and cake as well as watching local men kayaking and rolling expertly in their boats - it's a great party trick. The ship also offers the chance to go kayaking and that's great fun, paddling in a kayak to a remote glacier. As well as seeing whales we see seals and the remote settlement of 100 people called Aappilattoq in the Prince Christian Sound. The scenery, landscapes and light in Greenland are exceptional - come in the height of summer and you'll also experience midnight sun which is fun...
