With all of our travels to exotic locations and all of the adventurous excursions we undertake while there, we found ourselves falling into a false sense of security. But just because we have a professional guide and just because thousands of others may have done the same thing prior to us doesn't mean a particular activity is safe. Today, we had one great experience—and a harrowing one. The latter was one of the key plans for this private yachting trip through the Exumas in The Bahamas: Thunderball Grotto off Staniel Cay. It got it's name from the 1965 James Bond film in which it was featured. And hats off to that production crew for being able to get themselves and their filming equipment into the cave because our family couldn't make it past the entrance. What happened from there was the scariest 20 minutes in our family's life. We walked away from the day with a valuable reminder: the only people who are ultimately responsible for our family's safety are us. Nobody else can fully comprehend our abilities or comfort level. Moving forward, we'll be sure to better vet experiences before "diving in."
