The 'DORSET COAST EXPRESS' with Nos.34067 "Tangmere" + 37516 - 05/07/2011
YouTube Video Descriptionโ
The first of the 'Railway Touring Company's 2011 'Dorset Coast Express' excursions on Tuesday 5th July. As with the 2010 runs, the plan was to use to locomotives out of a pool of three: SR N15-class 'King Arthur' 4-6-0 No.30777 "Sir Lamiel", unrebuilt 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34067 "Tangmere" and BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70000 "Britannia". However, like last years runs, things did not quite run with the planned motive power. "Sir Lamiel" was spending the summer at the Wenslydale Railway and "Britannia" was being re-run-in on the West Somerset Railway following repairs. Only "Tangmere" was available. This resulted in a 'Swanage Belle'-like itinery with "Tangmere" hauling the outward run from London Victoria to Weymouth. Then later, Class 37 No.37516 brought the train back up from Weymouth with "Tangmere" attached to the rear as far as Southampton Central. Finally, "Tangmere" worked the last leg from Southampton Central back to London Waterloo via Romsey and Andover. This vid shows the Class 37 working the train through Totton with "Tangmere" attached to the end before "Tangmere" turns off onto the Romsey line at Redbridge heading back to London.
