Creator's Key Takeaways

I think that this is a sneaky devaluation, and here's why.

Marriott is being absolutely amazing to us Bonvoy members. They have turned a corner. I don't think so.

This is just following a poor trend in the industry, in my opinion, that it is just going to require more points to stay a free night at a Marriott.

Overall, I think that this is an interesting bit of news because it's not really a solution to the problem, more just another part of the symptoms that Marriott itself has created.

Creator's Tips & Advice

Use Marriott certificates to book rooms just over 35,000 points a night for good value.
If you have a large Marriott points balance, this change may be okay news for you.
Be aware that you do not get fifth night free benefits if you tack on a certificate night to a three-night Marriott stay.

About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description

Marriott Bonvoy just made a major change to how Free Night Award certificates work — and it could make them much more useful. Members can now top off their Marriott free night certificates with up to 25,000 additional points, up from the previous 15,000-point limit. This means certificates earned through credit cards, promotions, or elite benefits can now unlock significantly more expensive hotels. For example, a 50,000-point free night certificate could now book hotels costing up to 75,000 points, assuming you add the extra points from your account. In this video, I break down what changed, why Marriott made the update, and whether this actually improves the value of Bonvoy certificates — or if it’s just another step in the ongoing evolution of Marriott’s award pricing. 👉 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more ship tours, reviews, and cruise tips from Jackson Jetsetting!
