Opened in 1908, Victoria’s Fairmont Empress Hotel was designed by renowned architect Francis Rattenbury for the Canadian Pacific Railway as a luxury stop for steamship passengers. The hotel became famous for its British afternoon tea service, a tradition still cherished by visitors today. Over the years, the Empress has hosted royalty, celebrities, and dignitaries, earning a reputation as the “Castle on the Coast.” Major restorations in the 1960s and again in the 2010s preserved its historic charm while adding modern luxury. Designated a National Historic Site of Canada, the Empress remains a centerpiece of Victoria’s Inner Harbour, blending Edwardian elegance with over a century of storied hospitality. Completed in 1898, the British Columbia Parliament Buildings were designed by Francis Rattenbury, a young English architect who also created the Empress Hotel. Built in a grand Neo-baroque style, the complex features massive stonework, copper-clad domes, and ornate carvings showcasing B.C.’s natural and Indigenous heritage. Inside are chambers for the Legislative Assembly, as well as historic art and artifacts. Overlooking Victoria’s Inner Harbour, the Parliament Buildings remain the political heart of British Columbia and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Fan Tan Alley, located in Victoria’s Chinatown—the oldest in Canada—dates back to the late 1800s. Originally a hub for Chinese immigrants, the alley became notorious for its gambling dens, opium houses, and hidden shops, giving it a reputation as one of the city’s most colorful districts. Its name comes from the gambling game “fan-tan,” once played in the alley’s underground clubs. At its narrowest point, the passage measures just 35 inches wide, making it the narrowest street in Canada. By the mid-20th century, the area declined, but preservation efforts in the 1970s restored its heritage charm. Today, Fan Tan Alley is a National Historic Site, lined with boutiques, cafes, and artist studios while retaining echoes of its lively, and sometimes illicit, past. #victoriabc #canada #alaskacruise #cruise #norwegiancruiseline @norwegiancruiseline Our Equipment: GoPro5 : https://amzn.to/3W706JP GoPro10 : https://amzn.to/3JoNRRt Nikon Z30 : https://amzn.to/4d2bOvo Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra DJI Mini 2 Our Software and Subscription Services: https://share.epidemicsound.com/cyumoq Adobe Premier Pro Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator 🎉🎈🥳Please subscribe to our channel to stay in touch so we can share what we are up to!🐕🌋🌅 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYptpWdN5KNCq5pwdvGNrhQ?sub_confirmation=1 Website: www.justramblinaround.com Facebook: Just Ramblin Around Instagram: @justrambinaround Email: jrawithronandjodi@gmail.com Hi Ramblers!
