We Almost Skipped This Walking Tour… Big Mistake

We almost skipped this walking tour… and it turned into one of our favorite days in Spain. What started with a quick pastry run somehow became a full day of history, surprises, rooftop views, and one unforgettable night in Madrid. Day 3 in Madrid began early with a stop at the legendary La Mallorquina, one of the oldest pastry shops right in Puerta del Sol. We grabbed a sweet treat, headed back to our hotel for coffee, and set out to find a free walking tour… not realizing it would completely shape the rest of our day. From the famous Km 0 marker and the Bear & Madroño statue to the stunning Plaza Mayor, hidden alleys like Cuchilleros Street, and the incredible views near Royal Palace of Madrid and Almudena Cathedral, this walking tour gave us the perfect introduction to old-town Madrid. Somewhere between the stories, the architecture, and a cold beer with street music playing nearby… we realized this was one of those travel days you just can’t plan. And honestly… we were just getting started. Next up we meet friends on a rooftop overlooking the entire city… and later squeeze into one of Madrid’s oldest sherry bars for a night we’ll never forget.
