Creator's Key Takeaways
If you're booking Jewel of the Seas because the price is good, the itinerary works, and you want a quick getaway from Fort Lauderdale, I think you should really, really consider Jewel of the Seas.
Do not book Jewel of the Seas because you want the newest Royal Caribbean ship. You're not going to find Aqua Theater shows on here. The Prominade, Central Park, Surfside, bumper cars...
It's smaller, it's easier to navigate, and it's more ocean focused and a lot more traditional than the Royal Caribbean ships of today. And that is not a bad thing.
Coco Key is a lovely port. It is easy to get around. It's probably my favorite island of all the private islands in cruising.

Before you sail on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas, there are a few things you’ll definitely want to know. In this video, I’m sharing my best tips and tricks from my 3-night sailing on Jewel of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale to a sea day and Perfect Day at CocoCay. Jewel of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean’s Radiance Class ships, and while it’s older than the massive Oasis and Icon Class ships, there’s still a lot to like here — especially if you know what to expect before boarding. I’ll cover what the ship does well, where it feels dated, the best dining strategy, how the Unlimited Dining Package worked, what to know about CocoCay excursions, and whether things like the zipline, scuba diving, specialty restaurants, balcony cabins, and onboard activities are actually worth it. I’ll also share a few things that surprised me onboard, including how Jewel compares to other Radiance Class ships, why early dining worked so well, what I’d skip next time, and why this can still be a really fun short cruise out of Florida.
