For us, there are several reasons. But, we get this question mainly as others are trying to decide if a cruise vacation is suitable for their next trip. So, to help answer that question, we examine why we continue to cruise. Plus, we look at some of the pitfalls of cruising to be as balanced as possible. Unlike many types of vacations, cruising is flexible. In fact, cruise ships visit hundreds of destinations and all 7 continents. There are large ships, small ships, and even river cruise ships. So, going on a cruise gives you options to visit all corners of the world. We have been to over 45 countries and 5 continents in our travels and are just getting started. Another benefit of going on a cruise is the value. Cruising includes accommodations, most meals, non-alcoholic drinks, and many onboard activities and amenities for one set fare. Plus, it is a traveling hotel. When on a cruise, all of the transportation and logistics of the trip are taken care of for you. It is simple and easy. Although, we do admit that for some, the potential of not seeing land for a while can be unsettling. We have sailed with some who get concerned or anxious at sea. So, if you think this could happen to you, then a cruise is unsuitable. Also, there is the potential of getting seasick. Even though modern cruise ships have stabilizers, there is always the possibility you could feel the motion of the ocean. An ocean-going cruise is probably not suitable for those with sensitive stomachs or prone to motion sickness. Plus, modern cruise ships can fit thousands of passengers. So, there is the potential for queues, lines, and crowding. If you're concerned about being in a sea of other people, then a larger ocean ship probably is correct. Remember that there are smaller ships with only a few hundred people, and plenty of luxury ships offer space for you to get away from everyone else. But, on the flip side, one pro of going on a larger cruise ship is all the included amenities and activities. These ships have innovative features, digitally enhanced games, and nightlife with several themed bars and Broadway-caliber theater production shows. So, most cruise ships are much more than a floating hotel. Given all there is to do, cruising is great for multigenerational travel or groups. It allows diverse parties to find something to do. The kids will love the children's areas, whereas the parents can enjoy a nice, quiet dinner alone in a high-end specialty restaurant. Plus, you can easily find an itinerary with stops that will appeal to all types of travelers. While it is true there is a little bit of camp on cruise ships, the main reason we continue to sail is that cruising is a lot of fun. Are some of the activities cheesy, or is some decor tacky and a tad loud? While this might be true, as long as you don't take yourself too seriously, we suspect you will love cruising onboard!
