I recently enjoyed a fabulous Marella cruise on Marella Discovery. The voyage was sailing around Greece and Turkey and one of the ports as Alanya in southern Turkey. I booked a shore excursion which was the Turkish Bath experience (it was really cheap, only £25 / $32) and it took me to the Grand Alanya Hamam and Spa. It was a 2-hour circuit (I'm sure if you went there independently it would be cheaper) and this video shows you exactly what the experience is like. It starts in the sauna, then moves to the Jacuzzi. After that it's the steam room (they call it the Hamam). Next is my favourite part, being washed and scrubbed - it's done in this amazing communal large steam room where you lie down on a marble block. The masseuse scrubs my skin with a wiry hand mitt, then she washes me with soap and bubbles - it's absolutely amazing and she does it all over your body, front and back. It's an amazing skill the bubble bag thing! Watch the video to see what I mean. The masseuse also massages your neck and does a bit of pumelling, but after the wash and scrub session finishes you get a 20 minute proper oil massage. I loved EVERY SECOND of this experience and I thoroughly recommend it to you as something to do in Alanya!
