This video is comprised of footage taken by Peter Knego of the ill-fated COSTA CONCORDIA on three different occasions. The first footage shows the ship arriving at Palermo in 2006, viewed from the decks of the SS MONTEREY. At the time, the 114,147 gross ton CONCORDIA was one of the largest and newest cruise ships in the world. Next, you will see the capsized ship at the island of Giglio nine months after the disaster in dramatic footage shot from the incoming and outgoing ferries and the hill above. And finally, the giant hulk of the CONCORDIA is captured at Genoa before it was finally towed off and scrapped. The COSTA CONCORDIA was the largest shipwreck in history and claimed 32 lives, although it could have been much worse if the wind and tides took the crippled ship out to sea instead of bringing it to rest on an embankment outside of Porto Giglio. It took years and up to $2 billion to raise and dispose of the COSTA CONCORDIA. No AI was used in the creation of this video and all of the footage is entirely original and until now, never before seen.
