Tragic news out of Tenerife. A giant wave struck a pier this weekend, sweeping several cruise passengers into the sea.

A Dutch woman tragically died after being pulled from the water, and several others were injured, including a group of cruise passengers visiting from ships docked earlier that morning.

The victims were part of a tour group on a pier that reportedly had no visible barriers or warning tape, despite the alert being in effect.

Officials in the Canary Islands are now investigating why the pier remained open, and whether safety alerts were properly communicated to visitors.
