UPDATE: According to Inside Edition, the man who went overboard is Nick Naydiv and he was slightly intoxicated when he willingly dove off a Royal Caribbean vessel (Symphony of The Seas) from 11 stories up! He was not seriously injured and miraculously survived! Royal Caribbean has banned him and the friends he was with for life. When something like this happens the cruise line will begin an intensive investigation to understand how and what happened and that could spell trouble for him. Cruise ships have a vested interest in ensuring there are never any overboard incidents and spend millions to design ships to prevent this from happening. They already know (most likely) this was not some kind of accident from the ship but most likely something the passenger is at fault for. They will determine whether he violated the safety rules, like sitting on the balcony rail, or something else that caused this to happen. If he is found at fault he could face severe consequences including heavy financial fines, a lifetime ban from the ship, and even civil litigation. Bottom line: ALWAYS follow the safety rules that a cruise ship has in place. They are designed to keep you alive and prevent death. Don't be an overboard Karen causing problems.
