American Cruise Lines set sail on Saturday with an intracoastal cruise on its Independence ship. This week, American Queen Steamboat Company will also set sail on two chartered cruises. In more major cruise news, both cruise lines anticipate adding an additional ship later this month. In more encouraging cruise updates, Crystal Cruises has plans to begin offering Bahamas cruises in July. This huge cruise news makes the Crystal Serenity the first ocean going ship to offer North American cruises since the cruise shut down. Passengers do need to be vaccinated to embark on one of the 16 roundtrip voyages from either Nassau or Bimini. This is a very positive major cruise updates. It seems like all of the latest cruise news this week was positive. The UK also announced that domestic cruises would be part of the country's domestic travel plans which are set to reopen on May 17th. Already, two cruise lines, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises, have indicated they will have ships sailing in the UK this summer. This latest cruise news is a huge development for the UK. Related to the latest cruise ship news, the CDC updated its guidelines for those who have been fully vaccinated. Now, those who have been vaccinated can gather in small groups indoors without social distancing and facial coverings. What this means for when cruising resumes is not yet known, but it is encouraging that health and safety protocols are beginning to relax a bit. Even though most of the latest cruise news was positive, some cruise lines did announce a series of new cruise cancellations. Among the cruise lines pushing back cruise start dates were both Princess Cruises and Holland America Line. Cruises with these brands are now cancelled through June 30th. With more cruise ship cancellations, Royal Caribbean Group also cancelled cruises through May 31st of this year. Lastly, in a surprising cruise update, Virgin Voyages announced the name of its third ship to coincide with International Women's Day. The new Resilient Lady will now set sail in July 2022. The ship will homeport in Athens, Greece, offering 7-day roundtrip sailings to Greece and Croatia.
