http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Instead of heading straight across the Black Sea from Yalta to Odessa, the Viking Lomonosov sailed following the shore line; river boats have flat bottoms instead of triangular keels and must always remain 10 miles parallel from shore. The pilot boat pulled alongside the Lomonosov as we neared Odessa to guide the ship in and from the get-go, Odessa looked like a fun city; especially since we docked almost at the base of the famous Potemkin steps.
