Empress of the Seas: Cozumel, Mexico Arrival & Departure on October 14th, 2019

On October 14th the Empress of the Seas made a visit to Cozumel Mexico. Traveling the water between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen under darkness the full moon cast the way ahead. The pilot boarded at 6 AM as we neared the dock casting our lines at 6:30 to begin docking. At that time the lights of the Carnival Valor could be spotted on the horizon. At 7 AM the first light of the sun started to shine on the horizon over Cozumel with the moon still high in the sky on the other side of the ship. By 7:50 AM the sun was above the city and the Disney Fantasy was making it's arrival to dock at the other terminal area with the Carnival Valor finishing docking at the adjacent pier to us at 8:45 AM. All 3 ships were scheduled for a 6 PM departure with the Disney Fantasy dropping it's lines first followed by the Carnival Valor and then the Empress of the Seas. At that time storms began rolling off the land and surrounding the ship with both the Carnival Valor and Disney Fantasy sailing into and disappearing among the storms. The Empress of the Seas began departing at 6:07 PM with a quick 180 surrounded by the storms before sailing away between the walls of rain. As she passed the storms the other ships appear back into view with the Disney Fantasy remaining ahead while the Carnival Valor sailed off the port side. An hour later as they cleared Cozumel Island a new storms overtook all three ships.
