We are back in Amsterdam! We just love this city!! But the difference is that we are here for a river cruise... and our first-ever river cruise at that! We board the ship and have an overnight in Amsterdam where we can get off and explore the city as much as we want to. Spend the night onboard and get off the next morning for a ship excursion on the canals. On the first day, we just take off on foot to explore. We have our friends Dee & Jay (ParoDeeJay) with us for their first trip to the city. We wander some of the areas we are familiar with and stumble into the Red Light District as well... After some stroopwafels and getting rained on, we make our way back to the ship (AmaCerto). Staying overnight, we have the opportunity to get back off in the evening to explore but we are too excited about our first river cruise experience to do so. The next morning, everyone onboard (all 155 of us!!!) disembarked for a private tour of the canals of Amsterdam. THIS is the BEST way to see this city and is a must-do for a visit here!! This city was built on and around the canals so traveling through them is a great way to get to know Amsterdam. Once back onboard, we travel a couple of hours down the river to Utrecht. Here we get to spend the rest of the day at a real-life castle!!! Castle de Harr was built by a wealthy family for entertaining friends. It has a grand entrance and very impressive ballrooms and dining rooms... but what amazed me was the 25 bedrooms which all have en suite bathrooms!! Impressive.
