(Stegastein Viewpoint) simply gorgeous. (Osterbo Mountain Lodge /cancelled because heavy snowfall) Stegastein Viewpoint excursion by coach and Aurland with new addition of Gudvangen Viking village and Stalheim. We had reasonable weather in and around Flam, rained early morning on arrival but became better as day went on for this excursion, still almost dark but no rain. Cold and wet in Stalheim near hotel, to cloudy to see the amazing view from there. but rest was good. Road to Stegastein Viewpoint is known as The Snow Road, luckily was open, it closes for 5 months during winter. It is a bit scary even when dry and no snow. The town of Aurland is on the way to the Viewpoint located on Aurlandsfjord and there is an amazing view from Stegastein. We traveled through 2 tunnels (11 klms and 5 klms through the mountains) to get to Stalheim and Gudvangen. Gudvangen is located at the head of Naeroyfjord and is spectacular. There are free public toilets at Stegastein Viewpoint, Aurland and Gudvangen. Great cafes in Gudvangen and souvenir shops. Tried to get into Viking village, sign diverted to another gate around the back side, could not find way in, I must not have gone far enough and started to run out of time. If you come in by cruise on Naeoryfjord you do not have enough time to go to Viking village in Gudvangen or into Aurland in Aurlandsfjord, it is basically just a Fjord cruise with short stops. This excursion was by coach itinerary change, and it was the only reason I got to see Gudvangen in more depth. Thoroughly enjoyed this excursion supplied with welcome cup of tea and Norwegian cake in Gudvangen.
