Kodiak Alaska Tour (National Wildlife Refuge, Baranov Museum, Russian Church, Alutiiq Museum) (4K)
YouTube Video Descriptionโ
We visited Kodiak Alaska during our 14 Day Alaska Cruise in June 2017. There was a free shuttle provided by Holland America to the downtown area where we first visited the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. This was an educational & interesting museum about wildlife, including salmons and bears found on Kodiak island. We then headed to the inside of City of Kodiak Pier One which was a visitor's center of for cruise guests. We then made the short walk to visit Baranov Museum (aka Erskine House), which was a Russian house from the 1800s when Alaska was part of that country. Afterwards we walked about two blocks to checkout the Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church with its interesting architecture. Then we toured the Alutiiq Museum across the street, where our son had fun tracing Petroglyphs on paper. It was then time to take the shuttle back to the cruise ship after the DIY Kodiak excursion. At the end of the video you will see our ship, the Holland America Amsterdam, sail away with scenic views of the Kodiak island surroundings. We even saw a Kodiak coast guard helicopter, and a airport/base.
