This cruise news calls into question whether the Alaska cruise season can happen. We share with you why we are optimistic in our latest cruise updates looking at How the Alaska Cruise Season could still happen! If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! More than half of the visitors to Alaska arrive via cruise ships. So, cruising is very important to Alaska tourism. As we have reported on several cruise updates, the cancellation of the 2020 Alaska cruise season was devastating to the industry. It would be even more bad news to the Alaskan economy if 2021is cancelled too. ------BIG CRUISE NEWS: CANADA BANS CRUISE SHIPS------ With many cruise lines cancelled through the end of April currently, the fate of the Alaska cruise season has been uncertain for several months. With Canadaโ€™s cruise update last week that it was prohibiting foreign vessels of more than 100 passengers from its waters, it made many question whether the Alaska cruise season could happen at all. This is mainly due to the Passenger Vessel Services Act. This 19th century law prohibits foreign flagged ships from transporting travelers between two U.S. ports without stopping at a foreign port. So, with Alaska cruises originating in a U.S. port, this means the ships need to stop in a foreign port before returning to a U.S. port. With this cruise update and ban on cruise ships in Canada, vessels will not be able to satisfy the requirements of the Act. -----CRUISE UPDATE HOW ALASKA CRUISE SEASON CAN STILL HAPPEN----- We share in this cruise update how the Alaska cruise season can still happen. First off, the act only applies to foreign flagged ships. So, any cruise line that has a U.S. based ship does not need to worry about the Passenger Vessel Services Act. Of the major cruise lines, only Norwegian Cruise Line has a mega-ship registered in the United States. The Pride of America is currently docked in Hawaii, where the ship offers year round week cruises from Oahu. While the large cruise brands do not have U.S. flagged ships, many niche cruise lines do have such vessels. So, cruise lines like UnCruise Adventures, Lindblad Expeditions, and American Cruise Lines all have ships that would be allowed to cruise in Alaska this season. In fact, some of these cruise lines have already indicated they plan to cruise in Alaska this year. ------LASTEST ALASKA CRUISE NEWS FROM THE MAJOR CRUISE LINES----- Still, there is the possibility that the major cruise lines could obtain a waiver from the Act. If Congress approves this move, the major cruise lines can still operate between U.S. ports, as long as they do not enter Canadian waters. Plus, Canada could reverse this interim order if pandemic conditions improve. While the cruise lines have not cancelled their Alaska cruise seasons yet, most major brands have suspended new bookings. They have indicated that they are looking at all possibilities to attempt to preserve at least part of the 2021 Alaska cruise season. So, only time will tell if the Alaska Cruise season for 2021 will set sail. ------THE BLOG HAS THE LATEST CRUISE UPDATES ON THE ALASKA CRUISE SEASON------ https://eatsleepcruise.com/2021/02/can-the-2021-alaska-cruise-season-still-happen/ ------TRENDING VIDEOS FROM EAT SLEEP CRUISE------ LATEST CRUISE UPDATES February 7th: https://youtu.be/YmaXhFyFMvQ Top Alaska Cruises: https://youtu.be/rbMHoroChL0 Best New Cruise Ships for 2021: https://youtu.be/XtqW0X5GrGE ALL Changes Coming to Royal Caribbean: https://youtu.be/e0HeCvB28jU Make sure to SUBSCRIBE to our channel above to get the latest cruise tips, cruise reviews, packing guides, port guides, travel tips, and more.
