Today we disembarked the Sun Princess and took the rail to the main station in Rome. Our hotel was about a 10-15 min walk from the station. Cobblestone sidewalks are not friendly to suitcase wheels and added a challenge navigating the streets. Def better not to have a lot of luggage... After checking into the hotel we were off to our tour of the Coliseum and Forum. We booked this tour through Viator which gave some confusing instructions on where to meet the guide. We were about 20-25 min walk from the hotel. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and as we were to find out, he must run marathons because he was fast. He walked so fast up and down the hills of the forum we could barely see him let alone hear. When we would catch up he was ready to head out. We all finally had to tell him to slow down as over half of our group just got off the plane and was experiencing serious jet lag (Not a good idea and that was their fault). They eventually left the group to explore on their own. The forum was way better than I thought it was going to be. The architecture and condition these structures are still in just shows how amazing it was built. We were able to fill our water bottles off of fountains built and supplied from aqueducts built back in the Roman days and it tastes great! They're still exploring the catacombs and tunnels beneath the forum finding even more artifacts. The Coliseum was just as amazing but not as much walking. We were supposed to do the lower levels of the Coliseum on our tour but the Roman government decided to start limiting the amount of people allowed to go down there a couple weeks prior to our trip. You can still see the lower levels from the cut out floor but I'm sure there's so much more down there but what can you do... The Pizza place we went to each night (% min walk) was amazing as well. When we cruised on this amazingly beautiful vessel it was about a year old. We had all of these plans to explore and see everything on the ship but sadly we realized that wasn't happening. Our cruise was a 14 Night cruise with 9 ports of call. Each port we put in at least 16k steps a day in 90 degree weather and often over 80% humidity. We would get breakfast downing as much water as we could, explore the port/excursions, get back onboard showering and off to dinner, hopefully watch a show and back to bed to repeat the next day. The Sun Princess is beautiful and the largest ship in the Princess fleet but it needs to be reconsidered design wise for future Princess vessels. Venues are too small for the amount of people onboard. Thank you for watching our video and we hope it helps you decide if these locations are somewhere you may want to visit.
