Unlike Caribbean cruises you can only visit Alaska in late spring through early fall. The Alaskan cruise season runs from late April through late September / early October. July has the highest temperatures, least amount of rainfall and the most daylight. Wildlife sightings are plentiful but peak season has the most crowds and the highest price. If you take an Alaskan cruise during the shoulder season or my secondary shoulder season, you will save money and have less crowds. But it might be colder and more rainy. Wildlife will also not be fully active. Go during the late shoulder season you can find bargains at the stores before they close for the winter. Alaska cruises tend to be more expensive than your typical cruise and can fluctuate considerably depending on the cruise line, cruise ship, Alaskan itinerary, and time of year. The newer ships tend to be more expensive than the older ships. Premium and luxury cruise lines will also be more expensive than the mainstream cruise lines.
