Creator's Key Takeaways
This is where the ceiling collapsed during an explosion. These walls are 3 m thick.
This is Grand Juke Votus. He took Lithuania to its greatest territorial extent.
I didn't realize that they built the whole thing from scratch in 2002. So, they completely rebuilt it in the early 2000s.

Welcome to our Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania vlog! ๐ฑ๐น We're visiting the National Museum in Vilnius to explore one of the top things to do in the city. If you're planning a Vilnius city break, you really have to visit this museum. It's a fascinating look at the royal history of Lithuania and the story of the grand duchy. We start underground by exploring the ruins of the original castle and the archaeological digs. It's amazing to see the original foundations of the city! From there, you travel upwards and forward in time to learn more about the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Next is a journey back in time to explore the reconstructed historical interiors. Not too far back though because even though the original Grand Duke's palace was destroyed in 1801, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2011. We walked through recreated Renaissance era rooms like the Baroque Rulerโs Library, the Great Hall and Antechambers before coming to the amazing Throne Room. We loved it! Just nearby you'll find the Grand Duke's Treasury which is where you'll find the jewellery and crowns of the Lithuanian rulers. We also visited the Armoury to see medieval weaponry like swords and crossbows used to defend the castle centuries ago. Next we went to the top of the observation tower for some amazing panoramic views over Vilnius Old Town and Gediminas Hill. We finished our tour with a visit to the Armoury to see medieval weaponry like swords and crossbows used to defend the castle centuries ago.
