About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionโ
Your bucket list cruise to South East Asia may take you to the wonderful cruise port of Georgetown Penang and from here you are able to take the 1 and 1/4 hour coach trip to the Bukit Merah holiday resort in the neighbouring province of Perak. Itโs a pleasant journey across one of the two colossal bridges that cross from Penang island to the mainland. Traffic congestion can though be an issue. So if you are making your own way there be sure to factor in enough time for a traffic jam. Upon arriving at Bukit Merah you can make your way along the pier to the kiosk where you can buy tickets for admission to orangutan island โฆ Adults cost 28 Malaysian Ringit, about ยฃ4 โฆThis includes the 20 minute ferry ride across to the island and admission too. Arriving on the island you are greeted by a grand entrance immediately off the landing platform that guides visitors into the caged walkway that takes them safely into the orangutan reserve The 15 acre island is a special conservation project dedicated to the preservation of this majestic species of ape. And the 200m long observation tunnel allows visitors to wander deep into the islandโs interior to observe these magnificent creatures in a natural habitat.. sleeping, feeding, playing and blowing raspberries at visitors. About 20 orangutans freely roam the island although some are segregated to prevent violence to others. Itโs possible to tempt them out of the jungle and your guide may try and use food and treats placed via tubes to lure them out. The island specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of orangutans who were found to be injured or in danger. Itโs a special place and as well as a gift shop you can visit a small educational centre before you leave the island and climb back aboard the ferry. We were so glad we went and saw this wonderful and very special conservation project. #fareastcruise #perak #penang #orangutan #orangutanisland #malyasia Please subscribe to see more content like this - https://youtube.com/@CooksExplore?sub_confirmation=1
