Sometimes cruise port days do not go exactly as planned. It was raining in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, so we did not get out and explore on foot like we normally would. Instead, Keith, Free, and our friends James and Pam took a drive through the city to see parts of Puerto Plata most cruise passengers never see. We passed through local neighborhoods, saw the preparations being set up for Carnival, checked out some of the surrounding properties, and even drove through the Haitian community area of the city. Even though the weather was not perfect, it gave us a chance to see a different side of Puerto Plata beyond the cruise port. Sometimes the unexpected turns into the most interesting part of the trip.
