Resilient Lady: Santorini Greece Tender and Cable Car Ride on October 2nd, 2023 (4K)

On October 1st Virgin Voyages' Resilient Lady set sail on a 7 night Greek Island Glow Voyage around the eastern Mediterranean. Sailing round trip from Athens she made stops in various ports within the Greek Islands as well as Turkey. This was her second to last voyage of this itinerary for the 2023 season. This time-lapse was filmed from cabin 11102A, a Sea Terrace cabin on the port side of deck 11 towards the aft of the ship. With the towns located high on cliffs the ships have to anchor in the waters of the crater and use tender boats to get passengers to and from the land. This can create a bottle neck on even light days. With high winds on our visit both the MSC Musica and Rhapsody of the Seas were forced to miss their scheduled stop for the day. The island of Santorini has two different ports for the tenders to use. Individuals catching shore excursions take tenders to the new port where buses are waiting to drive them to the top of the cliff and on to their destinations. All other guests are tendered to the old harbor instead where a cable car takes them to the top. At the end of the day all passengers regardless of how they came ashore must return from the old harbor. This can lead to massive lines for the cable car to the bottom of the cliff and then the tender boats back to the ship. On our day with only half the scheduled vessels in port it still took over 2 Horus to return to the ship.
