The Incredible Reason Our Cruise Ship Stopped in the Middle of the Ocean: Discovery Princess ๐ฆช

Creator's Key Takeaways
Our technical team noticed a temperature change in the cooling system. This was due to a build-up of muscles in our engine cooling system.
It was necessary for us to slow down the ship's speed for an hour, so we could clear the muscles from the cooling water.
I'm very pleased to inform you that we have resumed passage and don't expect to lose any more time on the completion of the passage.

This afternoon on the Discovery Princess we had a call from the Bridge for a response to the Engine Room. A few minutes later, he made another announcement that it had been a false alarm. Many passengers noticed that the ship stopped in the water for the following hour. Here was the Captainโs update/explanation later in the afternoon. We are crossing over to Tokyo as the ship has completed its Alaska season. Apparently mussels built up in the coolant system of the engine over time while in cold seas, and when we crossed into warmer waters it killed the mussels causing them to expand. This restricted the flow of water to the cooling system and caused the alarm. For the hour that the ship was stopped, the maintenance crew was working to clean the dead mussels out of the coolant lines to the engine. The ship is back underway and on schedule for our arrival in Tokyo the day after tomorrow.
