Overview of the Birth and fitting out of Norwegian Cruise Lines newest flagship Norwegian Breakaway at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Norwegian Breakaway's began when the first plate of steel was cut on September 21, 2011 and with the Keel being laid on May 4, 2012. A total of 73 blocks have been welded together to build the ship. Construction of Breakaway's sister ship, Norwegian Getaway, began with the cutting of first piece of steel in May 2012. Norwegian Breakaway is set to debut in April 2013 and will feature three shows that have appeared on Broadway: the 80's music bash Rock of Ages, the ballroom showcase Burn the Floor and the circus-without-animals spectacle Cirque Dreams Dinner & Jungle Fantasy. At 144,017 Tons and passenger capacity at 4,000 people she is the largest ship to be home ported out of New York. The ship will have a total of 1,024 staterooms and 238 suites, designed by Priestmangoode and Tillberg Design , her hull art work was created by legendary artist Peter Max.
