Day 4 on the Carnival Breeze - Progreso (Yucatan) / Elegant Night / Meet the Captain We arrived in Progreso early in the morning on a cloudy and breezy day and took the free shuttle from the terminal into town. It was about a 15 minute ride there and the shuttles run every 15 minutes or so, to and from. We did not do a shore excursion and decided to check out the place at our own leisurely pace. We wanted to get some souvenirs and just hang out at the beach. We did take a little tour of the town which was about 40 minutes around town. Progreso's main workforce are fishermen and the majority of the vendors rely on the cruise passengers. Since the cruise industry was shut down for 15 months, the people there took a big hit and are slowly getting back on their feet. After the tour, we had some lunch at one of the restaurants by the water. There are people that stand outside the different restaurants and try to bring people in. They all have different kinds of specials going on, in our case we got a bunch of appetizers with the price of 2 drinks. We ordered additional food and our bill came out to just $20. After lunch, we walked to the actual beach and found out that a lot of the restaurants actually own part of the beach and they will rent out chairs and covered tables as part of their services. We had a couple of drinks and were going to get in the water but the water was quite cold and had lots of seaweed. We did not stay there too long and then headed back to the bus stop, which was about a 5 minute walk from where we were. There were numerous vendors, both in the shops as well as individuals walking on the beach trying to sell different kinds of stuff from jewelry to leather goods to little trinkets. We just had to tell them no thank you and they would leave us. We did buy a few things and we had to really negotiated any time we bought something. Once we got back on the ship, we had dinner, it was elegant night and they had a little show in the MDR with the wait staff dancing. They also encouraged the passengers to takes part, that was fun. After dinner, the cruise director, Erin, introduced the captain and all the senior officers of the ship. We ended the evening watching the show 88 Keys which was pretty good and entertaining. We went on our very first cruise during Halloween 2021. It was a 5 night cruise on the Carnival Breeze out of Galveston. We left the day before and spent the night in Galveston so that we were not rushed that Saturday and we had an amazing time. We knew that all the safety protocols were in place and that made us feel very safe. Every single person we came across, from the crew in the cruise terminal to the crew on the ship and the passengers were so nice and everyone was just really happy. Our cruise departed Galveston on Saturday Oct. 30th in the afternoon and it was so much fun being able to watch the Sail Away party. We had reserved a Cove balcony because we had heard a lot of good things about those. They are very close to the water and seem a lot more private than the balconies on the upper floors. We made our reservations for this trip in September last year, over 400 days prior to the start of trip and we were not sure if it was ever going to happen. The cruise industry was completely shut down from March of 2020 and did not get started again until July 2021. It was a very exciting trip for us for a couple of reasons. It was our very first cruise and cruising had restarted without any issues, Itinerary was: Day 1 - Embarkation - Leaving Galveston Day 2 - Sea Day Day 3 - Cozumel Mexico Day 4 - Progresso (Yucatan) Mexico Day 5 - Sea Day Day 6 - Back in Galveston Will have more videos to come soon hopefully!
