Our last sea day heading back to Galveston. We spent the majority of the day relaxing by the pool. Tony did the water slides and the SkyCourse ropes course. They had a Groove For St. Jude event at the pool to raise donations for this great organization. You would get a T-shirt and a wrist band for a $10 donation and there were a couple of high bidders at the end for a stuffed toy bear. There was a debarkation information session where they talked about what to expect for the next day. We then had dinner at Cucina Del Capitano where we had a delicious meal, including the famous Arancini. This was a specialty restaurant and was $38 for both of us, which was really worth it. After dinner, we headed to the Ovation Theater and watched our last show, the Motor City. The next morning when we woke up, an announcement was made information us that we were going to be a couple of hours late to dock at Galveston due to a rescue that happened in the middle of the night. Apparently a small vessel was in distress and our ship was closest to it and they had to rescue 3 men and 2 dogs. We completely slept through it at night and did not see any of the lights or hear the sounds of the helicopters, and the rescue happened on our side, port side! We definitely were in deep sleep! Arriving in Galveston, the weather was completely different than our previous days and it was kind of depressing coming back after such an amazing and fun trip. Video of actual rescue courtesy of Rhonda Brewer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtAV3xLHcv8 We went on our very first cruise during Halloween 2021. It was a 5 night cruise on the Carnival Breeze out of Galveston. We left the day before and spent the night in Galveston so that we were not rushed that Saturday and we had an amazing time. We knew that all the safety protocols were in place and that made us feel very safe. Every single person we came across, from the crew in the cruise terminal to the crew on the ship and the passengers were so nice and everyone was just really happy. Our cruise departed Galveston on Saturday Oct. 30th in the afternoon and it was so much fun being able to watch the Sail Away party. We had reserved a Cove balcony because we had heard a lot of good things about those. They are very close to the water and seem a lot more private than the balconies on the upper floors. We made our reservations for this trip in September last year, over 400 days prior to the start of trip and we were not sure if it was ever going to happen. The cruise industry was completely shut down from March of 2020 and did not get started again until July 2021. It was a very exciting trip for us for a couple of reasons. It was our very first cruise and cruising had restarted without any issues, Itinerary was: Day 1 - Embarkation - Leaving Galveston Day 2 - Sea Day Day 3 - Cozumel Mexico Day 4 - Progresso (Yucatan) Mexico Day 5 - Sea Day Day 6 - Back in Galveston
