Using a vast archive of brochures, photographs, menus and documents, Peter Knego's latest MidShipCinema Decked! feature covers the history of American Export Lines (and later American Hawaii Cruises) S.S. CONSTITUTION. This beautiful vessel, considered one of the all-time great transatlantic liners, was designed by American industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss and was considered the height of style in early Post War America. She was the haunt of politicians, religious leaders and movie stars, perhaps the most famous being Grace Kelley, who took 90 of her best friends with her to Monaco in April of 1956 for her wedding party. CONSTITUTION was also featured in two "I Love Lucy" episodes and the movie "An Affair To Remember". After a long layup, she went on to a successful second career sailing the Hawaiian Islands and after another layup, sank while under tow to the shipbreakers in 1997. #ssconstitution #americanexportlines #classicoceanliners #classiccruiseships #americanhawaiicruises #ssindependence
