Under the delivery name FORTU, the former SONG OF AMERICA was run up onto the beach at Alang, India, where she will be broken up for scrap. In this ten minute video, Peter Knego shares exclusive video filmed a day or two after this much beloved ship was beached. The one-off SONG OF AMERICA was built in 1982 and her success led Royal Caribbean to build the SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS trio, the first all new mega ships and forerunners to the line's massive OASIS class of today. Knego shares footage filmed on board the SONG during her final call at Los Angeles and shows her departing Miami for the final time in 1999 when she was sold to Airtours and renamed SUNBIRD for British-based cruising. In 2005, SUNBIRD was sold to Louis Cruises and chartered to Thomson Cruises, who renamed her THOMSON DESTINY. In 2012, she reverted to Louis, who renamed her LOUIS OLYMPIA and in 2014, when they rebranded as Celestyal Cruises, she became CELESTYAL OLYMPIA. Knego includes on board footage of the ship in Louis and Celestyal service. In 2023, the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA was retired and sold to a scrap merchant who renamed her BELLA FORTUNA. She sailed to the UAE in April of 2024 and then departed in January of 2025 under the shortened name FORTU for Alang. #songofamerica #royalcaribbean #louiscruises #louisolympia #celestyalcruises #celestyalolympia Songs licensed from Artlist: "Shivaham" and "Guruvea Sharnam" by Mahesh Vinayakram; "Skyward" by Bubblz, "El Monte" by Luke Melville; "Old Greek Taverna" by Ikoliks and "Ouzo Nights" by Rafi B.
