Join me as I explore Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras aboard Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Jubilee! Roatan, known for its lush beauty and stunning beaches, is part of the Bay Islands and has a rich history tied to pirates, the Garifuna people, and British colonization. Mahogany Bay, Carnival’s private port area, offers a unique blend of modern amenities and natural beauty, and I was the only one to disembark here, as Brittney had to work. Though we’ve visited Roatan several times over the years, this was my first time walking the nature trail to the included beach—a completely different experience from our visit 12 years ago, with much denser and more beautiful tree cover. 12 years ago we did not see the beach area. I started my day touring the shopping area, but since I wasn’t looking to buy anything, I made my way straight to the beach. You can take the gondola or sky lift from the shopping area to the beach for an extra fee, but I opted to walk—it's quicker, and the nature trail is lovely! While the beach doesn’t offer many included amenities, loungers are available if you arrive early, as the best ones fill up fast. You can also rent loungers with shade for $30 (for two) but make sure and reserve early on the ship because they will sell out. I couldn’t resist indulging in a local favorite, a Baleada, which cost $8! Although overpriced it was worth every penny, as it brings back memories of my homeland! Being from Guanaja, Roatan’s sister island, it felt like a true homecoming. As the day grew extremely hot and humid, I headed back onboard the Carnival Jubilee to cool off in the aft jacuzzi and enjoyed our stateroom’s view as we sailed away. Dinner that evening in the MDR was a mixed experience: the Beef Wellington was delicious, but the shrimp salad and pumpkin soup were misses. Dessert, however, was a perfect 10/10! Stay tuned for the next episode as we visit Costa Maya, Mexico!
