Creator's Key Takeaways

to get the true picture of the severity of a kovat nineteen outbreak in any particular place you have to look at the number of daily cases per capita or in other words per the number of residents of that area

the final key concept is that the number of new daily cases can fluctuate quite a bit from day to day so we should always look at a 7-day rolling average

if you're going out and spending time with other people in a place with Code Red conditions you are taking a serious risk with your health and the health of everyone in your family

I currently live in San Luis Obispo County California so we're in a Code Orange fifteen point five new cases per 100,000 residents

Creator's Tips & Advice

Look at daily new cases per 100,000 residents on a 7-day rolling average to assess outbreak severity
Use the Harvard Global Health Institute website (global epidemics org) to check county-level data
Follow color code system: Green (<1), Yellow (1-10), Orange (10-25), Red (>25) new daily cases per 100,000

About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description

In this video I talk about Covid-19 and how to determine how severe the outbreak is in any particular county in the United States... including yours and mine. Where some of the most severe outbreaks are in the United States is discussed in the second half of the video. In the first half, I bring you up to speed on three key concepts you have to understand when looking at the statistics involving the global pandemic. All the data presented in the video was current as of July 17th, 2020. To get the latest data and examine the severity of the outbreak in the specific parts of the country that interest you, go to https://globalepidemics.org/key-metrics-for-covid-suppression/ which is a web site provided by the Harvard Global Health Institute. It's normal to introduce yourself at the beginning of a presentation, but I do it completely backwards in this video. I tell my personal background story in the final minute of this video. I'm Jim Zimmerlin, but everyone calls me Jim Zim. I'm an old radio guy from the 1970s and 1980s, and the big ElectroVoice microphone you see in this video is an homage to that. For the last 22 years, I've been working in the nuclear power industry. I just recently retired. So, I have a lot more time on my hands these days. I've been trying to do lots of different types of videos on my YouTube channel lately. If you think this was a good video, share it with your friends on social media... And subscribe to my channel.
