Traditionally, guests staying in an Inside, Oceanview, or Balcony cabin, would receive two perks from a list of 5. Guests in higher category staterooms, like Suites, would receive additional perks. Guests booked in the Haven would get all perks. Now, since the cruise restart in 2021, Norwegian Cruise Line has been offering all those who book with the cruise line ALL the perks. -----Norwegian Free at Sea Explained ------ This NCL cruise deal typically consists of 4 perks. The first is free open bar. This entitles all guests staying in a stateroom to receive the Norwegian Cruise Line Premium Beverage package. This package includes all alcoholic beverages that are $15. For the most part, this covers all cocktails, beers, and many glasses of wine. This package also includes soda and juices. Next, cruisers can opt for a specialty dining package. This perk includes a set number of meals at one of Norwegian Cruise Line's up-charge restaurants. The number of meals is based on the length of your cruise. A typical seven-night cruise receives a two-night specialty dining package. This is only good for the first two guests staying in a stateroom. Also, the cruise line offers a $50 shore excursion credit for each port of call. Thus, this perk’s value depends on how many destinations your ship visits during the voyage. The perk is not combinable, so you need to spend $50 at each port or you lose that credit. Finally, the cruise line also offers a small internet package as one of the free perks. This timed package's value is also dictated by the length of the cruise. Cruises of 7 nights get a 250 minute internet package. Note, this is for the entire cabin, not per person. More recently, the cruise line has added additional perks. One that is great for families is “kids sail free”. As the name implies, the 3rd and 4th guests staying in a stateroom sail for free with guests 1 and 2 paying full price. A sixth perk that is sometimes offered by the cruise line is a discount on airfare. This perk offers the second guest's flights for free. So, to qualify for this perk, both travelers need to book their roundtrip airfare with the cruise line. -----IS NORWEGIAN FREE AT SEA REALLY FREE?------ Now, back to the original question, is the Norwegian Free at Sea promotion really free? To qualify for the Free at Sea pricing, cruisers do need to select the appropriate cruise fare. Often, this fare is higher than the “sail-away” fare for stateroom categories. Still, the difference between this cheaper rate and the lowest rate the qualifies for the promotion tends to be around $130 per person. In addition, you do need to pay for the service charges associated with the drink package and specialty dining. For a party of two, this equates to around $155 for a seven night cruise.
