Creator's Key Takeaways
I think it goes without saying but I'll say it anyway don't buy this for an adult and don't buy this for anyone that already owns some real G scale track
I really can recommend Lionel's Polar Express train set to you
I just refuse to say that it's G scale because it really isn't
for less than $100 it's certainly a tremendous value

I bought a Lionel Polar Express train set for less than $100... and it was advertised as G scale. Since that's hugely less expensive than a G-scale train set usually costs, I was curious to see what the catch was. It turns out there were several. But in the end, I really did think that this inexpensive toy train set was a good value considering that it was affordable enough for almost anyone to purchase. To buy one of these trains sets, go to http://www.jimzim.net/Lionel.html to see the four different versions and there you'll find links to order your favorite. After a full review of this train set, I decided to have a little fun and stage an epic train crash! Hopefully you have a few laughs when you see it. This Lionel train set uses plastic track and runs on batteries, in order to keep the cost down. In spite of the compromises that Lionel had to make to meet the under-$100 price point, I actually had some fun with this set... and would consider it a great gift for a child in the 4-8 year old range. It would also look pretty great running around the Christmas tree.
