🚨 RUMOR: Disney just scrapped the original plans for Villains Land? According to a blockbuster report by Drew Taylor at The Wrap, incoming CEO Josh D'Amaro told Imagineers to come up with a new plan for Villains Land right before the holidays and to go bigger and bolder right before the holidays. Here's everything that's rumored to have changed. Villains Land is still happening, but the overall tone has shifted to be brighter and more family friendly. Taylor’s sources say the reference point has shifted from Dark Universe at Epic Universe and more toward Isle of Berk at Epic Universe. The roller coaster has completely changed. The original high-thrill Maleficent coaster is now an Emperor's New Groove family coaster with a "pull the lever, Kronk" moment. Think a family coaster along the lines of Slinky Dog Dash or Hiccup's Wing Gliders. Maleficent will instead anchor a massive indoor boat ride that's said to be on the level of Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, or Shanghai's Pirates of the Caribbean. This is the make-or-break attraction for the entire land. It needs to be the kind of ride you plan a whole vacation around. Disney is also planning a third attraction (possibly an Ursula spinner) a Hades dinner show, and improvised villain character interactions throughout the land, similar to Igor at Dark Universe or the villains currently on the Disney Destiny. Personally, I love the ambition. Bigger and bolder is exactly what Disney needs right now. I was hoping for a more thrilling coaster, but a family coaster is probably a smart call. But I'm hoping the final land keeps a bit more darkness and edge than Berk. A lot is riding on getting this right. Villains Land is already a statement piece for D'Amaro's tenure as CEO. As one anonymous source put it, every CEO gets a chance to put a land in the Magic Kingdom, and this is his shot. Expect to hear more later this year at D23, which I'll be covering here on Guide2WDW.
