Le Boreal Arriving in London May 15 2014
YouTube Video Description↓
Compagnie du Ponant luxury cruise ship, Le Boreal, arrived in London in style on May 15 2014 as she sailed backwards under Tower Bridge before tying up alongside HMS Belfast in the heart of the city. Cruise ships intending to dock in this part of the city must be 158-metres or less in length as they actually berth alongside HMS Belfast, which is 186.99-metres. In short she cannot host a vessel larger than she is. Sailing up the River Thames, under Tower Bridge and directly into the heart of London is certainly a cruise experience one could never forget. Other ships that can berth alongside HMS Belfast include: Seabourn Legend, Silver Cloud and MS Hanseatic. HMS Belfast entered service in 1938 for the Royal Navy and she is today the only surviving cruiser that was built in the 1930's. She is also the largest preserved warship in Europe. Decommissioned in 1963 and a branch of the Imperial War Museum since 1978, HMS Belfast is permanently moored next to Tower Bridge.
