Legend of the Seas, Gulf of Aden Passage, March 16, 2017 A day of splendid sunshine , calm seas and activities at the pool decks. No pirates ! Ship speed at 19 knots. Friday morning at 06 am we sailed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait with the Perim island to starboard. The Bab-el-Mandeb (Arabic:"Gate of Tears") or Mandeb Strait is a strait located between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, and Djibouti and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. It connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The Strait is 27 km (16,8 miles) wide and is shared by the Yemeni island of Perim in an eastern and western passage.
