The Lost City of Pompeii - A tour of Pompeii will leave you speechless! Mount Vesuvius erupted on August 24, 79 CE. Pompeii remained buried under a layer of pumice stones and ash 19 to 23 feet (6 to 7 metres) deep. The city’s sudden burial served to protect it for the next 17 centuries from vandalism, looting, and the destructive effects of climate and weather. To date, they has excavated abut 2/3 of the area and what they have found is mind blowing! Ovens for cooking, spas with water circulation and steam, intricate roads and sidewalks, homes, theaters, bakery with brick ovens and more. They were so ahead of their time in thinking and building. They have just found a pizza pie perfectly preserved. This is well worth the tour and one I booked in the Crystal Serenity on my Mediterranean Cruise.
