The US Coast Guard medevaced a 68-year-old-man with a heart condition from Norwegian Star on January 31, 2019, when it was 200 miles off the coast of San Diego. The ship was initially about 310 miles offshore when they contacted the Coast Guard at about 9:30am. Watchstanders directed the ship to divert to an area about 200 miles off the coast where it would be within range of the helicopter. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from the Coast Guard station at San Diego to meet the ship. Once over the ship, a rescue swimmer was lowered to the deck and the patient was hoisted to the helicopter. They brought the man to San Diego where he was transferred to a local hospital just after 5pm. In the beginning shots, notice the speed at which the helicopter and the ship are moving as they perform the maneuver and how steadily the Coast Guard pilot holds his position over the ship's deck making it seem like they are motionless. The Coast Guard pilots always make this complicated procedure look so easy. Note: This is b-roll, so there is no sound.
