--~-- Most Delayed Passengers Heading For Home from the Diamond Princess after weeks of quarantine. At least 600 of these tested positive for the Asian flu and are being treated in hospitals in Japan. Unfortunately, two passed away during the night last night. Both were elderly with other medical complications, but had exhibited symptoms prompting their trips to medical facilities. Hundreds have now disembarked from the cruise with others set to leave within the next 48 hours. As earlier reported, some 300 are already in the US; 150 Australian passengers are in Darwin, Australia; the first batch from Hong Kong are back in that city; 74 Britons will leave Friday and Indonesia is set to repatriate its citizens as well. Most must go through another 14 days of quarantine on their home soils before actually returning to their cities. According to a Japanese report, "the decline in the number of confirmed cases, based on reported onset dates, implies that the quarantine intervention was effective in reducing transmission among passengers." However, some experts are questioning that statement's validity. China has seen a sharp drop in the number of new infections. There were 394 new confirmed cases and 114 deaths reported on Wednesday, down from 1,749 new cases on Tuesday, the National Health Commission said. There are more than 1,000 cases outside of China, including on Diamond Princess and in Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong. Iran says two people infected with the virus have died in the city of Qom - the first reported deaths in the Middle East. Travel and Cruise Industry News, Feb 20, 2020.
