The ship's Travel Guide Eli provided informative port talks that weren't just excursion pitches. Highlights included the "Origin Story" show and "A City on the Sea" behind-the-scenes presentation. 🍽️ DINING EXPERIENCES: Our culinary journey onboard Westerdam revealed mixed results across venues. The Lido Market buffet offered decent variety but fell short on quality compared to other HAL ships, with notably disappointing pizza. Dive-In served better-than-average cruise ship burgers though consistency varied, while the Main Dining Room maintained reliable standards with interesting regional "Port to Plate" selections. Where Westerdam truly shined was its specialty dining – Canaletto's enhanced Italian menu impressed (especially that heavenly Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake), while Pinnacle Grill delivered excellent steakhouse classics and hosted outstanding Tamarind and Morimoto pop-ups featuring Asian-inspired seafood that became our favorite meals onboard. 🏊‍♂️ OUTDOOR SPACES: The Westerdam features the Lido Pool with retractable roof, aft Sea View Pool, sports court with pickleball, and a wraparound promenade on Deck 3. During scenic cruising days, you'll appreciate the bow access and various viewing platforms. 🎵 NIGHTLIFE: Four production shows from Step One Dance Company (Humanity was our favorite), plus comedians and musical acts including The Jason Singh Experience. Live music venues include Billboard Onboard with dueling pianists, Rolling Stone Lounge with a versatile band, and the Ocean Bar featuring jazz. Don't miss the signature Orange Party! 🍸 BARS & LOUNGES: Westerdam offers diverse venues with signature cocktails, regional beers and wines. Standouts include Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard, Gallery Bar, and the Crow's Nest (the only place for specialty coffee as there's no Grand Dutch Cafe). 🛏️ STATEROOM: Our verandah stateroom was functional but showed the ship's age with limited storage, small seating area, and the dreaded shower curtain. While adequate for a port-intensive itinerary, it didn't compare favorably to similar-aged ships we've experienced.
