We recently had the pleasure of sailing on the P&O Iona, it was a 14nt round trip from Southampton to the Mediterranean. We booked a saver rate through seascanner for a standard inside cabin, which was allocated by P&O two weeks prior to our embarkation. We were allocated standard inside cabin 4459, which is located in midship on deck 4. As you would expect from such a new ship, the room was immaculate, apart from the boxer shorts which were left in the bathroom, if you look closely enough you can see them in the video 🤣 Pros & Cons The room was a decent size and we were particularly impressed with the bathroom and the shower pressure, the kettle and the in room entertainment (video will be uploaded shortly) There was plenty of lights and mirrors in the room, which is unusual for an inside cabin, it also helped when getting ready for dinner, as well as a good hair dryer. The sockets being UK 3 pin was a welcome change, as was the usb sockets underneath the bedside lamps. This meant we could charge our mobiles without taking up a plug socket. Now for the negative, with regards to the standard inside cabin there were only a few things we could pick at. The wardrobe was just about adequate for 14nts but we had to request extra hangers from the cabin steward and we had to double up on clothes. though I can't imagine this being an issue for shorter cruises. The shelves in the cupboard with the safe were lacking a little in depth but manageable The biggest negative about this inside cabin is the fact there is no where to put your suitcases once you have unpacked. We had to place them in the corners by the dresser and frudge unit and work around them. As for cabin 4459, the location was fantastic. It was just a short walk to the gangway when docked and disembarking from deck 4 and 3. The gym is on deck forward, which isn't too far, but the main decks are 6,7 and 8, so can be accessed very easily. Being on a lower deck and in midship also helps if you suffer from seasickness. But there was a significant downside that put a bit of damper on inside cabin 4459. Directly behind cabin 4459 on the deck plan is a blank space. It turns out that this space is a staffing area. so each night in the late hours and early morning there was a significant amount of noise, generally staff talking loudly and walking up and down metal staircase. Would we book an inside cabin again? Absolutely, as there was nothing that too negative that would deter us, especially if the price is good. We just wouldn't book vabin 4459.
