Having built many passenger ship models in the 1960's as a teenager and living in a small country town in South Australia I never thought for one moment that I would ever see some of the magnificent passenger liners that sailed the seas. My first view of QE2 was on a very cold snowy day when I first arrived in New York City in April 1982. My eighth floor apartment on 75th Street and Riverside Drive actually overlooked the Cunard Terminal on 57th Street. I remember quite clearly walking to the dock and watching QE2 sail out of her berth and down the Hudson River, thereby achieving a life long dream to see her. On subsequent occasions I could watch QE2 sail into port from my bedroom window. I regret very much not sailing on her, even though the opportunity presented itself. As a result I did take a magnificent twenty one night voyage, (going Princess Grill class) on Queen Mary 2 from Cape Town in South Africa back to Adelaide in January 2011. I also saw QE2 tied up at the Quebec wharf whilst visiting there and again at Station Pier in Melbourne. QE2 came to Outer Harbor in Adelaide, South Australia on a number of occasions. She was certainly THE most popular ship to have ever come to the port of Adelaide.
