When Richard Branson first set out to start a cruise line everyone said it would be a challenge, but no one back then knew just how much of a challenge it would actually be as he'd be launching during a pandemic. Originally to set sail on April 1st 2020 Virgin Voyages took delivery of the very first vessel in their fleet as the Coronavirus was shutting down China. As they showed her off around the UK parts of Europe began to close. As she made her way from the UK to New York for her US debut and a series of dinner events the city of New York would also succumb to the virus. Halfway across the Atlantic the call to cancel the events and divert to Miami was made. Shortly afterwards her inaugural season would be canceled beginning the cascading cancellations that would plague the industry into financial trouble and unknown futures. The crew that had never gotten started were sent home and she returned to the place she was built, Italy, and waited the virus out. Virgin would take delivery of their second ship, Valiant Lady just one year later while still not operating a single revenue sailing. On September 12th, 2021 things started to change though as that historic transatlantic to kick off the entire company was finally completed with her sailing into New York. After several days of offering dinning service to the people of NYC and a few special parties onboard she was finally ready to get to work. On September 19th 2021 she set off from Pier 88 in Manhattan just past noon and made her way down the Hudson River. Passing by the World Trade Center and Statue of Liberty she was visible from the Tear Drop Memorial in Bayonne NJ as she made her way to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and out to sea to go home to Miami.
