An old favourite of many railway enthusiasts hauled its first Main Line excursion since 2014 on Tuesday 5th September 2017. The locomotive in question was BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell" which last worked a main line tour in just under three years - its last tour being the 'DARTMOUTH EXPRESS' on Saturday 18th October 2014. It is also the first time that a 'Britannia'-class has been seen on the Main Line for less than two years as classmate No.70000 "Britannia" has been sidelined since October 2015. The tour that "Oliver Cromwell" was in charge of was a Steam Dreams 'CATHEDRALS EXPRESS' from London Victoria to Sherborne before going on for stabling at Yeovil and later returning to West Brompton. In this short video we see the 'Brit' passing through Andover. I had hoped to overtake her at Salisbury and then see her powering through Templecombe, but unfortunately due to signal problems at London Waterloo my train was late and as a result the 'CX' was allowed in front. It ended up arriving at Sherborne 30 minutes early! There isn't long left before "Oliver Cromwell's" Main Line Ticket expires so here's hoping she has a successful last few months on the Main Line.
